סגן א׳ סגר שבת באיו״ש כאשר הוקפץ במפתיע בשבת ב06:30 בבוקר יחד עם הצוות שלו לגזרת העוטף.
א' וצוותו הגיעו ישר למוצב כיסופים. כשהגיעו למוצב, הבינו שיש 15 מחבלים שלכדו תצפיתניות בחדרים ובחמ״ל, א׳ הבין שעליו ועל צוותו להילחם ולהשיג שליטה על המוצב והחל בקרב. במהלך קרב של מספר שעות, הם הצליחו להשתלט על המוצב, לחסל את כל המחבלים והתצפיתניות חולצו. במהלך הקרב נהרגו שלושה מחייליו של א׳ והוא נפגע מכדור שחדר מהכתף עד לבטנו.
